2012 Goals in Review
How did I do in 2012? Did I reach all of my goals? I sort of hope not, because that means I did not aim high enough.
You can read about my goals for 2012 here, and below a quick recap on how I did.
12 races in 2012 and 12 PR’s in 2012***
Minimum of 1 race each month. This served me well last year, and now I will add a twist by shooting for 12 PR’s. This will not only keep me running, but keep me running with quality. One of these races will be a marathon with my wife. We are going to run together every single step of the way. That alone is going to make our year awesome
I technically did PR in every race I ran in 2012.. I just did not see the improvement I hoped for. We also did not run a marathon together. Someday.
.***2,012 Miles in 2012***
Less than 40 miles per week? Easy My running this month has made me aware that I am ready for this.
I got a bit lofty here. It seemed easy, but it did not take into consideration tapering for races. It did not take into consideration week long backpacking trips. It did not take into consideration ER trips, health issues, or anything like that. I easily topped my 2011 total in 2012… but I did not hit 2012 miles… Ambitious goal. Maybe next year???
*** Improve my flexibility***
With my muscles, joints, and my life. This is important to me. I need to work on being flexible for my health both physical and mentally!
Life yes, muscles not so much. I actually just came up with a plan for this. I improved some things, others got worse. Hips and hammys being the worst of the worst. So call this one sort of done!
*** Less processed food ***
This helps with colitis, and my weight. In general, it makes me feel nice and healthy, who doesn’t want that?
We did WAY better with this. We had really great streaks of healthy eating. I am glad my goal was not ZERO processed food.. but less. Complete!
*** Continue to focus on those who focus on us***
This became a focus in 2011. There is such a limited amount of time and energy in the world. Why waste any of it on people who do not appreciate or want it? It was so rewarding to surround ourselves with those who have a real interest in us, but even more rewarding to give ourselves to others. We will continue this in 2012, because 2011 was a success.
This was a huge success for us this year. We really put our energy into those who seemed to value us as we did them. It was refreshing and rewarding. I expect to continue this. It also meant finding those with similar life goals/ expectations. In a world of more stuff, bigger things, and showing off, it was nice to find some folks who were about less stuff, smaller things, and seeing more than showing… if that makes any sense.
*** Judge less ***
This one should explain itself. We live in a world of judgment – I will TRY to do this less.
I was way more aware this year of this. I tried hard. I call this a success!
*** Want less ***
We have so much – more than we could ever need. I want to enjoy what we have. I actually want to enjoy less of what we have. Our house is perfect, our family is perfect. It will grow at some point and that will be be amazing. I want to enjoy everything as it is when it is! I think if we would all focus on what we do have instead of what we don’t, we would start to change.
YES! Sheila got on board with this and we really started to clean house. There is so much waste and over consumption in this world. We are hitting this as a real goal for every day life moving forward! Our house is big enough. Our TV is fancy enough. Our life is full enough. Love more, spend less. Doing well.
*** Live more ***
We adventure a lot. From here in Rochester to the tops of mountains to on rivers in valleys – I want more of this in 2012. I can sit on the couch when I am old and can’t climb mountains. The TV bores me – There will always be time to watch TV later. I want to live NOW. I want to run, hike, I want to stay up late, get up early. I want to experience life, not just get through it. We do really well at this, now we just need to be more focused on it.
We explored more of Rochester and the area around us than ever before in 2012. Sheila went on her first real backpack trip. We camped, we ran trails, we did everything we should have done to adventure more. From white water rafting, to visiting mountaintops in West Virginia to running backwards in time (daylight savings run) start at 2am, end at 1 am after an hour of running… We adventured. This was a success.
*** Love more ***
Last year it was a goal to tell my friends and family that I loved them more. This year will be backing those words up and showing them. Especially Sheila. She is amazing. I’m gonna love her a lot more this year!
Yep. I did this. I told people and showed people more this y ear. Still want to do more for Shme… But this was a success.
So there you have it. My 2012 goals in review. I have some other fun stuff already written, but I did want to post this quickly tonight. I think I had a pretty awesome 2012.. I mean I loved more, adventured more, ran more, saw people who mattered, met some awesome people, stayed healthy and pretty much had a solid year.
I am looking forward to 2013! I hope you all had a chance to reflect on 2012 and look forward to 2013!
